Gamescom Reaches New Milestone: All Available Areas for 2026 Booked Up

After new records were already established in the previous year, the available exhibition area of Gamescom is completely booked up this year for the first time. The world’s largest event for computer and video games thus underlines its importance as the central platform of the games industry and as the meeting point for millions of fans worldwide—on location in Cologne and digitally.

In order to access additional growth potential in future, game—The German Games Industry Association and Koelnmesse are already working on concepts for an expansion as of 2027. The goal is to meet the increasing demand and to improve the visitor experience in the process.

Highlight Shows Experienceable in Live Stream

In 2026, too, Gamescom is trusting in international show highlights with a global digital reach. For example, Gamescom is investing in the Gamescom awesome indies show, which will in future be developed further together with IGN. The format provides independent developer studios with additional international visibility and reinforces the role of Gamescom as a platform for the great variety of indie games.

Gamescom Opening Night Live with host Geoff Keighley and co-host Eefje “sjokz” Depoortere once again officially opens the biggest gaming festival in the world on the evening of August 25, 2026. Millions of viewers worldwide can look forward to new announcements, world premieres, and updates from the international games industry. This includes news on METRO 2039 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past, which are expected to be released in 2027.

- Play STRANGER THAN HEAVEN for the first time. Face down fate in the 50-year, action-adventure saga’s demo showcasing the innovative combat system that has you independently control the left and right sides of protagonist Makoto Daito across 3 of the 5 immersive Japanese cities & eras found in the full game.
- Get hands-on with METRO 2039 for the first time at gamescom ahead of its release in February 2027. Explore, scavenge, and survive the post-apocalyptic ruins of Moscow in the next landmark FPS from acclaimed storytellers 4A Games.
- Halo: Campaign Evolved lets attendees go hands-on with the faithful yet modernized remake of Halo: Combat Evolved’s legendary campaign, featuring updated visuals, refined gameplay, expanded combat options, and the iconic ringworld adventure that started it all.
- Between new Forza Horizon 6 features and partnership collaborations, there is always something new happening in Japan. Players can test their driving skills in the new Drift Attack feature and get a sneak peek at partnership collaborations dropping over the next few months.
- Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 brings riveting content and announcements from the world of digital aviation, including the first public playable hands-on experience with the National Championship Air Races, giving players a chance to experience the fastest motorsport on earth.

We are aware of stolen hardware and take these reports very seriously and understand the frustration of affected exhibitors.

Since many requests reached us, we would like to inform about general security regulations at the event:
Uniformed guards provide general security across the venue. Individual stand security can be booked separately, and exhibitors are advised to insure equipment against theft.
This is noted in the terms and conditions of participation and the technical guidelines.

All cases have been reported to us and to the police, and investigations are already underway.
We also want to ensure that the reported cases are individual cases, which we are very sorry to read.

Because security has one of the highest priorities to us as an event and to see that indie developers are affected makes us very sad. At an event of this size, however, there will always be individuals attempting to take advantage of the situation.
Our security measures are designed to minimize such risks as effectively as possible.
