    Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs

Hope you'll enjoy the first peak at what AAMFP (Next Frictional Game) is shaping up to become. Teaser (and game of course...) made by the thechineseroom (thechineseroom.co.uk).

    ABOUT AAMFP
Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs is an indirect sequel to the horror game Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

As described in the joystiq article (http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/22/amnesia-a-machine-for-pigs/):
"It's not a direct sequel, in terms of it doesn't follow on from the story of Amnesia. It doesn't involve the same characters," Dear Esther writer Dan Pinchbeck told me. Instead, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs will be set in the same alternate history and set in the same universe.

AAMFP is a collaborative effort between Frictional Games and thechineseroom. Coming fall 2012.

Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs will be “fairly traditional yet quietly radical in other ways,” says Pinchbeck | VG247
Speaking with GameInformer, Pinchbeck detailed how A Machine for Pigs takes atmospheric interaction from Dear Esther, and mixes it with the horror the player felt when playing Amnesia. It sounds as though it be one, volatile cocktail of scares with heart palpitations galore.

“Amnesia is fairly traditional in some ways but quietly radical in others,” said Pinchbeck. “One of the things it really does is it’s about buying the player emotional time and space to have this amazing emotional reaction to what’s going on, particularly in the terms of the horror, which is really self-generated.

“That’s a really natural fit with the types of things we were doing with Dear Esther. It’s the kind of focus on story and emotional space that should slot into the Amnesia architecture pretty well. Because an awful lot of that in the Dark Descent is you walking down a corridor or hiding in a cupboard, doing all the work of the graphics card imagining what’s on the other side of the door from you. That’s a weirdly parallel thing to what’s going on in Dear Esther, having a bunch of ideas thrown at you and really you’re building the story that’s just out of reach.”

Pinchbeck added that Frictional Games’, which is executive producing the game, is providing “very extensive feedback” and support for the title, yet it has essentially allowed thechineseroom to just take its baby and run with it.

“Effectively, they pay for the game and then we’re going off making it,” he said. “Every few months we drop a bunch of levels on them, they give us very extensive feedback, and we work through that crazy process together. And they’re on hand to support any kind of technical issues we have with the engine.

“We have this really nice relationship where we’ve got an enormous amount of creative freedom but we also have all this support whenever we want it. They’re great to work with in terms of honing the levels down because they’re so clued in now for how to creative the right kind of experiences for horror games.

“We’ve got access to some of the best horror designers out there. They’re helping us make this the best game it possibly can be. They steer and support us as we go along.”

Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs is due early 2013.

Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs complete, expected in Q2 | VG247

In an update to the Frictional Games blog, the indepdent developer confirmed it received a final build of the Dan Pinchbeck-designed Amneisa: A Machine for Pigs, the followup to Frictional’s own Amnesia: the Dark Descent, which released in 2010.

“But don’t get too excited just yet. Some work is still left to be done. We are testing, tweaking, optimizing, porting, translating and all those things that are part of the process of creating and releasing a game,” Frictional said.

“Currently we are looking at a release around Q2 2013.”

A Machine for Pigs had been expected by Hallowe’en 2012, but the project grew from “a short, experimental game set in the universe of Amnesia” to “a fully fledged Amnesia game”.

“A different kind of Amnesia, but definitely not a short experiment,” Frictional said.

A firm release date, pricing, and system requirements are expected soon.

    Thanks, Eurogamer.

    Amnesia: Collection Coming to PS4 – PlayStation.Blog
    Amnesia is coming to PS4.

And we won’t just be releasing Amnesia: The Dark Descent alone. We’ll be including two other games in the package as well.

One of them is Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs, which was developed by The Chinese Room (Everybody’s Gone To The Rapture). We asked The Chinese Room to make this game because we loved the stuff they’d done in the past (especially an obscure horror game called Korsakovia) and were curious to see what they’d do with the Amnesia universe.

Our initial expectation was just a short one or two hour game, but their ambitions went far beyond that, and in the end it turned into a full-featured release. The result is something that takes a slightly different direction from the first game, putting the themes of human evil from The Dark Descent into a global perspective with very disturbing results. We’re very proud to have it in the collection.

The third game is a lesser known Amnesia title called Amnesia: Justine. This game was made as part of a promotion for Valve’s Portal 2, where we — together with a bunch of other indie developers — took part in an Alternative Reality Game. We decided to use this as an excuse to do something different and went all-in on making a whole new story in the Amnesia universe. Justine is a shorter game, taking the form of a series of trials and is heavily inspired by films such as Saw and the historical persona of Elisabeth Báthory.

Together, all three games should provide a wide range of horrors for all PS4 players to face, and I hope it’ll produce many pleasant nightmares and sleepless nights upon release!
